Virginia
History
In 1607, England sent 105 colonists to the New World. When they came among the New World, the colonists settled along the James River. This was the first European settlement in what is now America. Therefore, this colony is where everything started. The Virginia company came on a charter from King James I.
Government
In the beginning, governors ruled the colony, which gave little freedom to the people. So, not many English people wanted to come over. Therefore, the Virginia Company set up a new form of Government. In 1619, The House of Burgesses was the first form of Representative Government in the English colonies. Elected reprsentatives met in the assembly House of Burgesses. This was were laws were made and enforced. It was a strong and effective form of government.
Geography
Virginia is based in the Southern Colonies region. It is above North Carolina, and right next to Maryland. Pennsylvania also borders the northwestern tip of Virginia. To the right of Virginia is the Atlantic Ocean and the East Coast. Rivers ran through Virginia meaning there was a good water source. Virginia is a great farming state, for it has very fertile soil. The soil is not to dry with the streams and rivers nearby, but still has a lot of land to cover. It is just the right conditions! Tobacco played a huge part in the surviving of Virginia. Also, their are many trees and marses to have agriculture work. There is much wood that could be used for multiple things.
Economy
The economy of Virginia started out slow. Yet, it come along once they began to grow tobacco and crops. Thus, the Virginia people could trade with England. Tobacco became huge in England and very addictive, so Virginia got nice things in return.
Religion
With the very faithful pilgrims being one of the first people to come to America, Virginia was a primarily Christian colony. The two main sections of Virginia were Catholic and Protestant. Children were educated so they would be able to read the bible. They took life very seriously in the Christian way.

William Bradford governed Plymouth for 36 years. He was a powerful and wise leader for the creating of Virginia. Also, Native "Squanto", was a helpful Native tribe leader who gave farming tips to the Plymouth people.
